But if uxterm doesn't support colors, the second "solution" (defaulting to xterm rather than uxterm) is fine by me.The built-in terminal emulator for Windows is “Command prompt”, while Mac OS X uses “Terminal” as its terminal emulation application which is located in /Application/Utilities. If I can get uxterm to work fine with vim with respect to syntax highlighting, then I don't much care about the second problem. Anyone know why or what is "overriding" my alternatives selection? Every time I click on the terminal launcher in the top panel, in the drop down menu under system tools, or with alt x, I still get uxterm. I used both update-alternatives, and the GUI tool "Alternatives Configurator" in System Tools to try to change the default terminal used by lxle, but that doesn't seem to work. In the mean time, since xterm is working fine with vim, I wanted to try to default the program launcher for Terminal in LXLE to xterm rather than uxterm.
I've managed to open xterm by typing it into the uxterm terminal, and xterm is working fine with highlighting in vim. I'd really like to use vim's syntax highlighting in uxterm, but don't know how it's interfering with vim. I can make the white screen go away by :q! out of vim. I'm using vim to learn C, but when I go to use syntax highlighting and activate any of the many provided colorschemes in vim, the entire terminal window in uxterm turns white.
